Exhibit opens in Saxonburg
SAXONBURG — Saxonburg Area Artists Cooperative will present a one-woman exhibit of oil paintings, watercolors and pastels by Karen Ferrick beginning Saturday at the gallery at 215, rear, W. Main St.
A reception for the artist will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
The display of 25 impressionist landscapes and still-life works will continue through July 12.
Ferrick is a Pittsburgh artist who has won national acclaim for her pastels and paintings.
Her painting “Dance of the Koi” was selected as one of the Top 100 Paintings of the Year from among 3,500 international entries in the Pastel 100 Competition of 2012. The painting also won an award at the Fred Rodgers Juried Art Exhibition in 2013 and was purchased by a public permanent collection.
Ferrick has exhibited extensively in local and regional shows, notably in The Art of the State Exhibit in Harrisburg, Three Rivers Arts Festival, the annual Mid-Year Exhibit at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, the biannual exhibit at the Westmoreland Museum of Art in Greensburg and the National Shades of Pastel Show in Lorton, Va.
She has received awards at the Saxonburg Festival of the Arts and the annual Penn Hills Art Show.
She has been an art educator for more than 25 years and is a signature member of the Pittsburgh Pastel Art League.
She will give a free demonstration of pastel landscape painting from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 28 at the South Butler Community Library.
SAAC gallery hours are noon to 8 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.
