SLIPPERY ROCK — Livingston Taylor, who has been playing guitar since age 13 and is a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, will present two performances Oct. 19 as part of the Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series.
The 3 and 7:30 p.m. concerts will be in the University Union.
Special guest singer and songwriter Chelsea Berry will join the performances.
With a career spanning 40 years, Taylor’s work includes performance, song writing and teaching.
At 16, while living in Boston and making the rounds of Boston coffeehouses, he met producer Jon Landau who later produced his first recording for Atlantic Records when he was 19.
As the writer of most of his musical repertories, his Top 40 hits include “I Will Be in Love with You” and “I’ll Come Running.”
He has performed with Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffett, Fleetwood Mac, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Jethro Tull.
He averages 80 shows annually, mostly featuring his own music, but sometimes including folk, rock, a classic Gershwin or something from Broadway.
He is working on a recording of original songs, due out this fall, as well as a collection of Broadway favorites titled “Songs for the End of the Day.”
His brother, James Taylor, recorded his “I Can Dream of You,” “Going Round One More Time” and “Boatman,” which are all included on the double Grammy Award-winning album “Hourglass.”
The SRU concert will be feature café seating. AVI will offer a menu of sandwiches, salads and snacks. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens, $16 for youths age 17 and younger, and $8 for SRU students. Call 724-738-2018.
