Saxonburg gallery features pencil drawings
SAXONBURG — The colored pencil drawings of Mary Strehl will be featured in the Saxonburg Area Artists Cooperative show that opens Saturday at the gallery at 215 W. Main St., rear.
An artist's reception will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Light refreshments and a wine tasting are planned. Music will be provided by The Docs.
Instead of being the usual soft and pastel type that is often the product of colored pencil work, Strehl's drawings have been described as bold, colorful and full of energy.
Her choice of subject is often not the expected still-life or landscape but rather dramatic presentations.
The exhibit will feature 17 original colored pencil drawings on sanded pastel paper.
Strehl holds a bachelor's degree in art from the University of North Alabama. She moved to Pittsburgh in 2000 to pursue a career in graphic design.
In 2005, she obtained her teaching certification in art from Carlow College. She teaches high school Latin and math and lives in Saxonburg.
The exhibit continues through Nov. 1. Admission is free. Call 412-260-5779 for more information.
