Jazz trio to perform concert at library
A Manhattan-based jazz music trio is making a stop in Butler this month for an outdoor performance at Butler Public Library.
The Daniel Bennett Group will perform in the library’s courtyard at 6 p.m. July 28. The free set is expected to last about 90 minutes.
Daniel Bennett, a saxophonist and the group’s front-man, called the trio’s sound modern jazz mixed with elements of American folk and classical music.
The group — made up of Bennett, pianist Mike Descoteaux and percussionist Al Vetere — is on tour promoting its latest album, The Mystery at Clown Castle.
Lori Hinderliter, the library’s executive director, said the concert will act as a precursor to the library’s usual Concerts in the Courtyard series.
The group was invited to perform after Hinderliter received a promotional e-mail several months ago, and library officials enjoyed its music.
“We thought this would be something different, something that is kind of an extra bonus for the series,” Hinderliter said.
The courtyard shows usually begin in August and this year’s lineup is still being finalized, she said.
