FASHION Q&A

QUESTION: I have a number of lightweight sweater sets I bought two and three years ago. They are still in good shape, they go great with most of my skirts and pants, but I'm just plain bored with wearing them. I can't afford a bunch of new tops. Is there a way to update my sweater sets?ANSWER: The best way to give oldies-but-goodies a fresh look begins with "A" — for Accessories.Take a leaf out of Michelle Obama's stylebook, and belt your sweater set. You can use just the shell, or both shell and cardigan. On a really lightweight sweater set, or if you are petite, use a narrow belt. A wider belt works well with a heavier knit — on taller figures.Drape one of the popular summer scarves (long, narrow and very lightweight) around your neck and let the ends hang down inside the cardigan.Pin two or three favorite brooches to the shoulder of the cardigan.Change out the sweater's boring buttons for some really fun ones. Or decorate the neckline of the shell with beading, sequins or embroidered tape. Finally, try mixing instead of matching your sweater-set pieces. That should liven things up.
