Mars claims Game 1 of finals, 14-3

CALLERY — Jim Pasquine hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday night, handing Mars a 14-3 victory over Mars II in Game 1 of the Eagle County Baseball League’s championship series.

The blast enabled Mars (25-5) to win via the 10-run rule. Pasquine had five RBI in the game.

Mars hit three other home runs in the victory. Brendan Malone had a home run and three RBI, Dan Penberthy had a homer, single and three RBI, Cody Dolan a homer and two RBI.

John Crummy homered for Mars II and Kevin Zangheluwe collected three singles.

Greg Frederick was the winning pitcher for Mars. He worked all five innings and struck out eight.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Callery Field. The entire series will be played on that field.
