BC3 wins in WPCC tourney
Third-seeded Butler County Community College beat Westmoreland County Community College 95-74 in the first round of the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Tournament Friday night at home.
The Pioneers fell behind 8-0 before rallying to take a 46-38 halftime lead.
Alex Alvarez led the Pioneers with 49 points and 12 rebounds.
Austin Miller (21 points) and Dom Pusateri (10) also scored in double figures for BC3.
Shae Stobert led the Pioneeers with 10 assists.
BC3 will advance to the championship game Sunday because second-seeded CCAC Allegheny forfeited due to the use of an illegible player.
The Pioneers will play the winner of CCAC Boyce and the University of Pittsburgh Titusville in the championship game.
BC3 will host the title game if Pitt Titusville upsets top-seed Boyce on Saturday.
If Boyce wins, it will host the Pioneers.
Baseball
The Slippery Rock University baseball team didn’t waste any time getting numbers in the win column to start the 2015 campaign.
The Rock swept a doubleheader with King University at King Baseball Field in Bristol, Tenn.
SRU pitched a shutout, 5-0, in Game 1 before winning the nightcap 6-2.
Ryan Oglesby pitched four innings and struck out four to earn the win in the first game.
Preston Falascino and Jordan Faretta both drove in two runs for The Rock (2-0).
