Rock bested at IUP

The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team was done in by a slow start in its PSAC West showdown at Indiana (Pa.) University on Wednesday.

The Rock shot just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) from the floor in the first 20 minutes and trailed IUP 32-22 at the break, leading to a 69-61 defeat.

Antonio Butler paced SRU (18-8, 13-7) with 23 points and Malcolm Richardson added 18.

The Crimson Hawks (21-5, 15-5) received 23 points from Devante Chance and 20 from Brandon Norfleet.

Women’s BasketballDespite 21 points from D’Asia Chambers and 19 more courtesy of Taylor Siggers, SRU dropped an 86-77 decision to Indiana.Lindsay Stamp (26 points) led a quartet of Crimson Hawks who scored in double figures as IUP improved to 22-2 overall and 18-2 in conference play.The Rock saw its record fall to 10-14, 6-14.
