The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department’s free Thursday night programs at Alameda Park include “Let There Be Slime Animals” today and “Bats in Action” July 28, both at 6:30 p.m. in the Carousel Shelter. There will be a family dog and nature walk at 10 a.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Aug. 10, both in the Carousel Shelter, and Bug Safari at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Shelter 2, for a small fee. Take a wide-mouthed jar with a lid.

Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township,will host a volunteer work day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. To register, call 724-368-8811.

REGION

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, will have a program on the eastern hemlock at 1 p.m. Sunday. The mill is open 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays. Tours are at 1 and 2 p.m. daily. Call 724-368-8811.
