The renovation work on the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., is expected to be done by the end of December.

Work to renovate the exterior of the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., continues.

The $400,000 project, which includes sidewalk and curb improvements, entryway renovation, fence improvement and a sunroom and courtyard, began in August and is expected to be done by the end of the year.

Uhl Construction of Allison Park is doing the project.

“Things are going well. The construction is proceeding, and we are on schedule to have the project significantly complete by the end of November, and 100 percent complete by the end of December,” said Greg Sloan, director of development and community relations for the library.

He said the courtyard’s exterior walls are almost complete as is most of the sidewalk concrete work, and a landscaping contractor will begin work on the courtyard base and flagstone.

In early to mid-November, the glass pyramid over the sunroom will be added.

Sloan said permeable concrete is being used between sidewalks and the curb, which will prevent rainwater runoff and will help water trees along street.

The library will remain open during remaining construction.
