Community group studies uses of grant

$25,000 award given by health foundation

The Southeast Butler County Community Alliance comprises municipal leaders, law enforcement officials and human services agencies that are interested in improving the health and wellness of those in the region.

The group is reviewing ways to use a $25,000 grant awarded in July by the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation.

In qualifying for the grant, the alliance held more than 12 programs in the southeastern part of the county dealing with such issues as drug and alcohol abuse as well as Internet dangers. The sessions drew a total attendance of more than 500 people.

Along with municipal representatives, alliance members include county Detective Pat Cannon, District Judge Sue Haggerty, Butler state police and the Center for Community Resources.

The long-term goal of the alliance is to continue its efforts beyond using the $25,000 seed money.

The alliance is open to all groups, organizations, businesses and residents interested in its efforts.

For information about the alliance, call John Pastorek, foundation president, at 724-226-9996.
