BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana starting safety Antonio Allen was suspended indefinitely from all football activities Tuesday night after his arrest on drug-dealing charges.
In a statement, the athletic department said it was aware of the arrest and will continue to gather the facts, but Allen's suspension takes effect immediately.
The Bloomington Herald-Times reported that the Indianapolis native faces preliminary charges on two counts of dealing methamphetamine, two counts of dealing heroin and one count of dealing cocaine following an investigation by the Indiana State Police.
The junior led the Hoosiers with 74 tackles last season. He also had 3 1/2 tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions.
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres picked Triple-A manager Pat Murphy to serve as the big league club's interim manager for the rest of the season Tuesday, a day after firing Bud Black following a lackluster start.The 56-year-old Murphy has been with the Padres organization since 2010 and has managed the Padres' Triple-A affiliate in El Paso the last three seasons.Black, who was in his ninth season as manager, had a 649-713 record but never took San Diego to the postseason.
Jake and Josh McBride combined for seven hits and four runs scored Tuesday as West Sunbury defeated Butler City, 10-0, in Butler County legion baseball play.Jake McBride collected four singles and scored twice while Josh had two singles, a triple and a pair of runs. Nate Hoshak contributed a double and three RBI.Zack Jewart was the winning pitcher, striking out five in three innings of work.Rob Kuritz had a pair of singles for Butler City.

PITTSBURGH — Jacques Martin has a new job with the Pittsburgh Penguins.The team announced Tuesday that Martin will serve as special assistant to head coach Mike Johnston. The 62-year-old Martin spent last season in an advisory capacity with the club.Martin will spend games watching from the press box and relaying insight to Johnston and the team between periods.
