Yost, Rekich reach PONY World Series
BUTLER TWP — Tyler Rekich and Kyle Yost crossed the state line to play baseball this summer.
The Butler residents have earned themselves spots in this weekend's PONY 14-year-Old World Series in Washington (Pa.) as a result.
Both played for the A-2 Athletics in the Youngstown B League this season. Yost was a catcher-shortstop, Rekich a pitcher-outfielder for their team, which finished 19-2 before settling for second place in the league playoffs.
Both were among six players on that team to join the Youngstown B League All-Stars for postseason tournament play.
“My dad signed us up for that league this year,” Rekich said. “I got called up (as a 13-year-old) to play in a few games there last year, but this was my first full season."
Youngstown faces Vienna, Austria, at 7 p.m. Friday.
A full story will appear in the Butler Eagle.
