Man jailed in assault of woman, teen girl
A Center Township man is behind bars in lieu of $100,000 bond after state police say he assaulted a woman and teenage girl and exposed himself to them, and later tried to kick troopers during a domestic incident last week at his Sunset Drive home.
William H. Barbary, 41, is facing a list of charges including three felony counts. He is being held in the Butler County Prison.
Police said they went to the defendant's home about 10:15 p.m. Thursday after county dispatchers heard a female screaming for help on a 911 call.
Troopers got there and heard screaming from a back room in the house, police said. They made it to the room and saw Barbary on top of a 16-year-old girl, “punching her in the head,” according to charging documents.
Police said they had to force the suspect out of the home, and while being placed in the back of a patrol car, he allegedly tried to kick the arresting officers. He is accused of kicking the cruiser, causing a large dent to the driver's side rear door.
The girl later told police that she ran out of the house after Barbary exposed himself to her. He chased her, she said, and in turn she ran back in the house and locked herself in a bedroom.
The defendant forced his way into the room, the teen recounted, and he attacked her. During the attack, documents said, she defended herself with a knife.
Barbary is accused of subsequently attacking the other victim, a 51-year-old woman, who told police that Barbary punched her in the head multiple times. He also allegedly exposed himself to the woman.
“The (girl) then hit Barbary with a vase in the head,” documents said. “Barbary then attacked the (girl) again, punching her in the head with a closed fist.”
It was during the second attack of the teen, police said, that troopers entered the room and arrested the defendant. The extent of both victims' injuries was unknown.
District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned Barbary on two felony counts of aggravated assault and one felony count of corruption of minors.
He also was arraigned on two counts each of simple assault and indecent exposure and one count each of criminal mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors Additionally, he is charged with harassment.
