Frank D. Grubbs
Frank D. Grubbs, 86, of Mars died Saturday evening at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.
He was born in Pittsburgh on March 22, 1926, and was the son of the late Frank Reynolds and Tess Hokstuhl Grubbs.
Frank was a retired school teacher and principal for the Mars School District, where he was a longtime basketball coach and coach of other sports.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Mars VFW and the Mars American Legion.
He was a member of the Victory Fellowship Church in Cranberry Township, the Full Gospel Businessmen and the Jesus Ministries at Mt. Union. He was a counselor and independent teacher of Christian counseling on general Bible subjects and had been a speaker for various church meetings.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 25 years, Joanne Lockenour Grubbs; two sons, the Rev. F. Michael Grubbs and his wife, Carol, of Osage Beach, Mo., and Jon P. Grubbs and his wife, Patty, of Gibsonia; his grandchildren, Frank Grubbs, Charissa (Chad) Burns, Joshua Grubbs, Bethany (Brad) Wentz and Jeremy Grubbs; and six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Susan Park and her husband, Roger, of Valencia and Ellen Schramm and her husband, Mike, of Middletown, Md.; a stepson, Ed Thomas of Washington, D.C.; a step-daughter-in-law, Pam Thomas in Texas; and his step-grandchildren, Mike, John and Shannon Park, Katie and Colin Thomas, and Heather, Brittany and Courtney Schramm.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Wagner Grubbs, who he married on Aug. 5, 1950, and who died on Nov. 24, 1986; and by a stepson, Steve Thomas.
GRUBBS — Friends of Frank D. Grubbs, who died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with his son, the Rev. F. Michael Grubbs, pastor of the Church of Osage Hills, officiating.
