Vehicle lands on roof of Giant EaglePITTSBURGH — Emergency crews responded Tuesday when a vehicle crashed onto the roof of a Giant Eagle supermarket.The incident happened in the city’s Greenfield neighborhood. Some witnesses tell police the driver lost control of the vehicle and went through a fence along a road above the store.Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts says the store temporarily closed because firefighters were concerned about gasoline or oil leaking from the vehicle.But Roberts said nobody was hurt inside the store and Pittsburgh police indicated the driver wasn’t hurt either.
Trial set for mother in drowning casePITTSBURGH — A judge has set a trial date for a Western Pennsylvania woman charged with drowning her two young sons in a bathtub nearly two years ago.That happened at a status conference in Pittsburgh on Tuesday at which the attorney for Laurel Schlemmer, 42, also told Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning that he’ll pursue a mental health defense if Schlemmer goes to trial as scheduled on May 5.
