Jewelry theft suspects soughtMONROEVILLE — Police are searching for suspects after two New Jersey jewelry dealers said they were attacked and robbed of $1.2 million worth of jewelry outside a cafe.Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said the two men were attacked Saturday by at least four people outside the Udipi Cafe on Old William Penn Highway.Cole said the suspects broke into the van of the victims, who had been selling jewelry at a show at a hotel earlier in the day. The two men were taken to Forbes Hospital with unknown injuries.The suspects were wearing dark clothing with baseball caps. Police said at least one was a woman.Police and the FBI are investigating.

Error inflates party switch numbersHARRISBURG — Pennsylvania elections officials are blaming a contractor’s error for adding 86,000 to this year’s statistics on voters switching their affiliation.The Department of State said Monday the correct current total of party switchers is 159,000, not 245,000. That’s 2 percent of all voters in the state, although the numbers will rise through the April 18 deadline for counties to forward registration records.More than 89,000, or about 56 percent, switched to Republican. About 60,000, or 38 percent, became Democrats.This year is the first year registration could be switched online. Many switchers reported wanting to vote in Pennsylvania’s closed presidential primary elections on April 26.
