To plea or not, that is the question a Chicora man accused of attempted murder faces.

Assistant District Attorney Ben Simon informed Gary Ellenberger, 57, in court on Tuesday that he has until Jan. 21 to choose whether to accept a plea deal.

Ellenberger is accused of shooting 27-year-old Heath Schrecengost of Karns City in the torso on Sept. 2, 2018, during an incident at Chicora's Millerstown Inn.

Schrecengost was seriously injured in the shooting and spent several months in a hospital.

Ellenberger's lawyer, Charles Nedz, said he would have to consult with his client before making a decision.

Simon noted that the offer is being made with the victim's approval.

After that deadline, Simon said he will pursue a trial.
