2 brothers nabbed in raid Task force: Officers seize drugs, cash

Two Butler brothers — both drug felons — are jailed after a raid by county drug officers turned up crack cocaine, heroin and hundreds of dollars in currency at their home, authorities said.

Brent D. Kennard, 25, and Robert E. Kennard, 35, were arrested Friday after the Butler County Drug Task Force served a search warrant at their home in the 300 block of State Street.

Officers obtained the warrant following a pair of earlier controlled drug buys at the house. A police informant was used to buy heroin as part of the investigation, said county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the drug task force.

Both defendants were home when officers showed up about 8:30 p.m. with the warrant.

The younger Kennard tried hiding in the furnace room but was quickly caught, authorities said.

Fennell said that Brent Kennard was wanted on a bench warrant and Robert Kennard was wanted on a domestic relations warrant.

During the search, officers found suspected crack cocaine allegedly wrapped for sale in 11 “baggie corners,” three stamp bags of suspected heroin and assorted drug contraband including crack pipes and needles, according to court documents.

Additionally, police seized $597 in currency and surveillance cameras that allowed the brothers to access a display screen in the bedroom to see who was at the door or in the parking lot.

Fennell described the pairs as “low-level” dealers.

“They were a neighborhood nuisance,” he said.

The Kennards were arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies.

They also are charged with misdemeanor drug possession.

They are in the county prison on $10,000 bail each for the drug case as well for their individual warrants.

Court records showed that Brent Kennard and Robert Kennard were convicted of felony drug possession in Allegheny County in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
