Jennings center slates programsSLIPPERY ROCK — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will have the programs listed below.To register for these programs, visit events.dcnr.pa.gov or call the center at 724-794-6011.Scout Stewards Prairie Improvement Day, 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 17: This seasonal learning and volunteering experience is for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who are Junior Girl Scout and Webelo Scout age or older.Full Moon Snowshoe Experience, 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 23: Experience the winter forest under a full moon. Snowshoes will be provided, weather permitting. The program is free, but registration is required by Jan. 20. Participants must be 9 or older.Homeschool CSI, Great Backyard Bird Count, 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 13: This citizen science investigation (CSI) for home schooling families will be an opportunity to learn about birds while contributing to scientific research.There will be an educational session with hands-on discovery centers, an introduction to bird identification, guided observation, bird counting and instructions for participation in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count.The registration and prepayment deadline is Feb. 5.Great Backyard Bird Count, 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 14: The annual GBBC encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to help scientists gather data on bird populations.

Christian school sets open housePORTERSVILLE — Portersville Christian School will have an information night and open house at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Portersville Alliance Church, 343 E. Portersville Road. The event will be for families interested in enrolling students for the 2016-2017 school year.The school is accepting applications and registration. Arm knitting class scheduled Jan. 21The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will offer Arm Knitting 101 with Yvonne Bartmas at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at the park office, 184 Alameda Park Road.During this introductory knitting class, participants will complete a scarf to take home. Previous knitting experience is not necessary.The registration deadline is Jan. 19. To register or for more information, call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department at 724-284-5383.
