JONESTOWN — A woman is dead after a backyard shed collapsed on her while she was trying to tear it down.

Authorities in Schuylkill County say 46-year-old Deborah Bergen was pronounced dead shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday after the accident at her Cass Township home.

Officials say they don't know how long she had been under the debris before a neighbor found her.

HARRISBURG — The company that manages the mid-Atlantic regional power grid says electricity use is hitting new highs.More electricity was used in the 13-state PJM Interconnection region in June and July than ever. PJM Interconnection also said Wednesday that 16 percent more electricity has been used so far this summer, compared with last summer.PJM says the higher electricity use is tied to hot weather. However, the high usage this summer did not break the one-hour peak demand record set in August 2006.

ERIE — The first tiger cub born at the Erie Zoo in more than 20 years is now on display.Yuri was born May 11 to Anna, a 13-year-old Amur tiger.Yuri has grown to 28 pounds and began making his first appearances at the zoo last week.He eventually will be transferred to another zoo, but not for more than a year.

PITTSBURGH — As many as 50 homes and at least one business were evacuated as a precaution north of Pittsburgh where a small amount of an unspecified corrosive chemical spilled from an overturned tanker truck.The truck overturned on the Bellevue-West View exit on Interstate 279 in Ross Township about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

HARRISBURG — The long-troubled Valley View Downs & Casino project might be headed for the auction block.The owner, Indianapolis-based Centaur, said Wednesday it is asking a federal bankruptcy judge to approve bidding procedures to transfer ownership of Valley View Downs.Centaur received the state's last harness-racing license, which qualified it for a casino license. However, its project financing fell through in 2008.

NEW CASTLE — Police say a woman got caught trying to fill phony prescriptions because she used the name of a dead doctor.Fifty-nine-year-old Helen Keidel, of New Castle, faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 26 on three counts of trying to illegally obtain Adderall, a drug used to treat narcolepsy and hyperactivity at a New Castle-area pharmacy in November 2008.Two of the prescriptions were dated after June 22, 2008, the day the doctor in question died, and the third bore the name of a physician's assistant, who cannot issue prescriptions.

PITTSBURGH — An 18-year-old was ordered held for trial on charges she plotted to kill her mother for opposing the teenager's plans to run away and get married.Thalia Moore of the Stanton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh was ordered Wednesday to face charges of criminal conspiracy, solicitation and attempted homicide.Police say 21-year-old Michael Satterwhite began secretly living with Moore after her mother moved to Chicago to take a job.
