BC3 tries to aid students hurt by school closings

3 institutions cease operations

Butler County Community College is reaching out to students affected by the closing of three for-profit schools in the state, according to the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges.

Since late August, Cambria-Rowe Business College, DuBois Business College and ITT Technical Institute have closed, and community colleges near those campuses are working with state and federal officials to find the best options for displaced students, according to the commission’s press release.

BC3 is working closely with DuBois Business College students at the DuBois and Oil City campuses.

Also, BC3 will host outreach sessions for ITT students at 6 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Crossing, 2849 W. State St., New Castle.

Another session for ITT students will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at LindenPointe, 3182 Innovation Way, Hermitage.

ITT students will be able to meet one-on-one with BC3 representatives to talk about transferring credits and financial aid options. Enrolling for the fall 2016 semester may still be an option.

There is currently no limit to how many students BC3 can take on from these schools, according to Jess Matonak, executive director of communications and marketing at BC3.

Depending on the program, the school would need to evaluate equipment usage, Matonak said.
