Wheelchair bound woman hit by trainERIE — Authorities said a woman using a wheelchair was struck and killed by a train. The woman, who was in her 40s, was struck on Erie’s west side just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday.The Erie County coroner said investigators determined the woman was out of her motorized wheelchair and laying on the tracks. He said it’s unclear whether she fell from her chair or “got there on purpose.”
Woman, kids hurt as car goes off cliffSMOCK — A woman and three children were seriously injured after their car swerved off a cliff and plunged 150 feet.State police in Fayette County said the 58-year-old woman was heading north on Route 4016 in Smock at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday with three girls age 10, 12 and 13.Police said she became “distracted” while going around a left bend and swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and the vehicle plunged off the cliff, striking several trees before landing and flipping over.Police said all occupants sustained “major injuries.” None were wearing seat belts.
