ELLWOOD CITY — Butler Country Club pro Rob McClellan headed a team that shot a 64-70-134 to finish second in the Nike Golf Pro-Pro-Am-Am Monday at Olde Stonewall Golf Club.

McClellan teamed with Hannastown Golf Club pro Ryan Sikora, Erik Lenyk and Geoff Patterson. They finished two strokes behind Chris McKnight, Adam Corson, Billy Burke and Greg Firko.

SRU’s Taylor named top field athleteLOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University javelin thrower Sam Taylor has been named PSAC Female Field Athlete of the Week.The freshman won the javelin at the second annual Dave Labor Invitational Saturday at SRU. Her throw of 144 feet improved on her personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark set earlier this spring.

Boston Marathon returning in 2014 BOSTON — Boston Marathon organizers vowed to continue the race next year, calling the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon “a deeply held tradition (and) an integral part of the fabric and history of our community.”“We are committed to continuing that tradition with the running of the 118th Boston Marathon in 2014,” Boston Athletic Association head Tom Grilk said on Tuesday.About 2½ hours after the winners of Monday’s race reached Copley Square at the end of their 26.2-mile run from Hopkinton, two explosions on at the finish line killed three and injured more than 170 others. Dozens remained in hospitals on Tuesday.The three dead were identified as 8-year-old Martin Richard, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell and a Chinese national attending graduate school at Boston University. The Shenyang Evening News said on its official Twitter-like microblog account that the victim’s name is Lu Lingzi.

Oregon acknowledges recruiting violations UCLA’s Muhammad leaving for NBA LOS ANGELES — Shabazz Muhammad is one-and-done at UCLA.The Pac-12 co-freshman of the year announced the news that had been expected since he arrived in Westwood: he’s leaving to enter the NBA draft.Muhammad was the Bruins’ leading scorer with 17.9 points per game, fourth-best in the league. The 6-foot-6 guard helped UCLA to a 25-10 record.Brewers’ Gallardo arrested for DUI MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo was arrested on a drunken-driving charge after authorities say he was driving on a city highway with a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The University of Oregon has acknowledged major NCAA violations in connection with football recruiting and proposed a self-imposed two-year probation with the loss of one scholarship in each of the next three years, according to documents released by the school.

The revelations were made in a summary disposition report included in the documents released Monday night. The contents were first reported by KATU television in Portland.
