Two county historical societies received more than $13,000 from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, the commission said Friday.

The Butler County Historical Society received $8,000 and Historic Harmony received $5,100 through grants from the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program.

The program’s goal is to strengthen the state’s museum community by supporting general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding programs.

Grants are awarded based on a formula that uses a percentage of the organization’s annual operating budget.
