Cheer:
Those in charge of the 26th annual Butler Fall Ethnic Festival were correct in postponing the event, which had been scheduled for Saturday.
An event of that magnitude ought to have the best opportunity possible to be successful. That was unlikely with the big uncertainties surrounding the remnants of Hurricane Ivan.
Hopefully, the threat of hurricanes and other bad weather will not be in the picture when the new festival date of Oct. 9 arrives. The change could even be beneficial from the standpoint that by Oct. 9 most other major fall festivals in the region, such as the Franklin Apple Fest and Clarion Autumn Leaf Festival, will already have been held.
That could result in many fans of the fall festival circuit, who might not otherwise have been able to attend the local event, to make the trip here and enjoy the many fun offerings available.
Even if the effects of Ivan are not as bad as initially feared, local fall festival planners were right in taking no chances. The local festival is too good to waste when a more acceptable option is available.
