Lions Club offers vision screening

The Butler Lions Club, a sponsor of the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department’s Monster Mile Family Fun Walk since its beginning, will serve the youngest members of the community this Saturday with a free vision screening offered at the event.

The annual fall event is hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department at Alameda Park in Butler Township. Due to the ongoing pandemic, participants will be required to wear masks.

The screenings will be available at the park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for youths age 7 and younger. The club suspended the program in early March at the onset of the pandemic.

Since Oct. 3, 2016, the Lions Club has offered the outreach program at day care centers and preschools. Screenings have also been available at community events attended by young children, including the Monster Mile and the Butler Golden Tornado Scholarship Foundation’s “Stuff A Bus” event.

The screening is performed with a state-of-the-art Welsh Allyn Spot Vision Screener, a machine that does not require contact with the child or eye drops.

A report detailing the results of the screening is provided to the parent.
