SHANKSVILLE — The Pennsylvania Game Commission and The Conservation Fund say they've acquired an extra 57 acres for the Flight 93 National Memorial.

The purchase, announced Tuesday, will be managed by the Game Commission. It was acquired last week from the Families of Flight 93, a group representing those whose relatives died in the crash.

Forty passengers and crew died on Sept. 11, 2001, after fighting with hijackers aboard the plane, which crashed near Shanksville.

OIL CITY — Volunteer firefighters in Pleasantville are in a bit of a pickle after the preprinted envelopes that accompanied the annual membership campaign had a Pleasantville, N.Y., mailing address.The township's Volunteer Fire Department sent out contribution forms to some 4,000 property owners who rely on its services, The Derrick of Oil City reported Tuesday. But they were surprised after finding out the return envelopes were addressed to the wrong Pleasantville.“There was a mix-up — the return envelope is preprinted with a Pleasantville, N.Y., address,” Jim Huff, president of the Pleasantville VFD told the newspaper. “So we want to let people know — do not use that envelope!”

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner on Tuesday criticized the state’s experiment with wine vending machines and said the way to best achieve customer convenience is to keep the state-controlled wine and liquor stores open longer.Wagner said the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board should eliminate the program that places wine vending machines, or kiosks, in supermarkets if it cannot be run more profitably.“We agree with PLCB that innovation should always be a top priority with regard to customer convenience, which was a specific goal of the kiosk program,” Wagner said. “However, the most fundamental goal that needs to occur within the PLCB and state government — through action by the General Assembly — is greater customer convenience by opening all PLCB stores seven days a week, 12 hours a day.”
