Robert A. Davis

Robert A. Davis, 90, of Slippery Rock died Aug. 20, 2021, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Franklin, to Claire Thompson Davis and Mary Josephine Pipher Davis.

He graduated from Parker High School in 1949, and Lock Haven Teachers College (now Lock Haven University) in 1954. He received an M.A. in geography from the University of Florida in 1956. He did further graduate work at Michigan State University and the University of Colorado.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958.

Bob always loved teaching. He began his career as an instructor at the University of Florida, from 1958 until 1961. He was a professor at Slippery Rock State College, later called Slippery Rock University, in the department of geography from 1963 until 1995.

After his retirement, he taught numerous classes in the Slippery Rock Learning in Retirement Program. He was an active member in several geographic, preservation and conservation organizations.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara C. Davis, whom he married Aug. 9, 1961; a brother, William C. Davis and his wife, Ruth F., of Audubon, Pa.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

DAVIS — Per his request, there will be no visitation or services for Robert A. Davis, who died Friday, Aug. 20, 2021.

Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral Home of Slippery Rock.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Slippery Rock Foundation, Robert A. Davis Scholarship Fund.
