Matijak

Frances Matijak, 92, of Kaylor, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Sugarcreek Rest.

Born Dec. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of John and Angelina (Horvatic) Matijak.

Frances was a 1949 graduate of Karns City High School and spent 38½ years at Nationwide Insurance in Butler as the office supervisor. During her career, she never missed a day of work.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend. After her retirement, she served as the church secretary for six years. She was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America.

Frances enjoyed the Pittsburgh Penguins and was a season ticket holder from 2005 to 2019. She attended every home game during those years.

Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Elaine Curran (Joseph), Patricia Bovee (Martin), Paul Matijak (Anthony), Karen Matijak (Karen), Lori Briggs (Marc), Mark Matijak, Roseanne Matijak, Frank Mootsey, David Mootsey and Karen Mootsey; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Margaret Mootsey; and two brothers, Stephen Matijak and Paul Matijak.

Frances’ family would like to thank the staff of Sugarcreek Rest for their care and kindness shown to her during the last four years.

MATIJAK — Friends of Frances Matijak, who died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, with the Rev. Arnel Tadeo, of St. Patrick Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Frances’ family suggests memorials be made in her name to St. Patrick Church, 915 PA-68, East Brady, PA 16028.
