William Shaner
William “Bill” David Shaner, 79, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.
Born on Aug. 22, 1945, in El Paso, Texas, he was the son of the late William Edward and Evelyn (Fedak) Shaner.
Bill served in the Navy on the USS Kittyhawk during Vietnam. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill loved playing ball and was very involved in coaching and umpiring youth softball. Bill had been a heavily involved member of the Cranberry Township parks and recreation board, was part of the Cranberry Community Days committee, and was president of the Cranberry 55 Plus Club. Due to his dedication, Bill recently received the Governors Award of Excellence and the Spirit of Service.
Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Florence (Jukkola) Shaner, whom he married on July 20, 1968; his daughters, Lisa Heathcote (Timothy) and Rhonda Ryals (George); his grandchild, Carly Harmon (Jacob); his great-grandchildren, Maggie and Waylon; and his brothers, James “Jimmy” and David (Donna) Shaner.
SHANER — Family and friends of William “Bill” David Shaner, who died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to the Rotary Club of Cranberry Township, P.O. Box 1474, Cranberry Township, PA 16066, or to a favorite charity of your choice.
Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Mount Royal Cemetery.
