Madeline Mercer

Mercer

Madeline “Maggie” Rose Mercer, of Evans City, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024.

Born June 20, 1928, in Superior, West Deer Township, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Lacoskie.

Maggie was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church of Evans City and a life member of Bethlehem Chapter 37 Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years.

Maggie worked as an electrician for Westinghouse. After marriage, her center of attention was raising her children. She then worked at Treesdale Farms and Weyerhouser. Maggie enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV with friends. She also enjoyed golfing, crafts, playing cards, gambling, entertaining and cooking. Anyone who knew Maggie knew cooking was her passion. Maggie and her late husband, Homer, enjoyed winters in their Myrtle Beach condo.

Maggie loved her porch along with everyone who would stop in to enjoy a meal, a piece of pie or a cup of coffee.

Above all, Maggie’s love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is what she cherished most in life.

Maggie leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Dennis of Knox and Renee and husband, Chuck Cypher, of Evans City; her grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin and Christopher Cypher and Lisa (Anthony) Hollebrandt; her great-grandchildren, Elayna and Nathan Cypher and Jillian, Addison and Levi Hollebrandt; her sister-in-law, Bertha Lee “Bea” Miller; a special person who was like a daughter, Pam Ondash; many nieces and nephews; and so many close friends.

In addition to her parents, John and Mary, who were originally from Poland, and her in-laws, Bertha Lee and Homer Mercer, Maggie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Homer; her six sisters; two brothers; and her two nieces, Debbie Calhoun and Cheryl Macerelli.

A personal thank you to Dr. Michael Wahl, VNA Hospice, and to all Maggie’s friends who visited. Without them, Maggie would not have been able to spend the last 10 months with her daughter and family in their home, surrounded by so much love.
