Fire damages RV in Jefferson Twp.
JEFFERSON TWP — A fire on the 200 block of Cobham Lane totally destroyed a parked recreational vehicle Saturday afternoon, but no one was hurt.
The vehicle's owner had been inside the RV earlier in the day Saturday to perform routine winter maintenance, according to Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company. Firefighters believe animals may have built a nest in the vehicle's heating system, resulting in a fire when the owners turned on the RV.
Damages to the vehicle alone were estimated at about $80,000, and there were further cosmetic damages to the outside of an adjacent garage. Flames didn't penetrate into the garage's interior. The garage is not attached to the home on the same property.
The owners have insurance for the damages. They reported the active fire at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday. They asked not to be named.
