Canadians protest against Bush
Mimicking the pulling down of the statue of Saddam Hussein during the Iraq war, more than 500 protesters cheer Tuesday as a mock statue of President Bush is pulled down outside the U.S. consulate in downtown Vancouver. Bush is on his first state visit to Canada, where he and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin are seeking to rebuild U.S.-Canada relations. Today, Bush is in Nova Scotia to give the Canadians a belated "thank you" for helping Americans in their hour of need after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. But since 9-11, U.S.-Canada relations have cooled, especially when Martin's predecessor, Jean Chretien, decided against sending troops to Iraq - a decision supported by more than 80 percent of Canadians. Thousands of Canadians have protested Bush's visit.
