Spectators cheer at the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger plane, successfully takes off on its maiden flight near Toulouse, France, earlier today. The plane carrying six crew members and 22 tons of equipment used to record flight data landed at the airport almost four hours after takeoff. European-based Airbus hopes the A380 will give it an edge over American-based airline manufacturer Boeing.
