Carried to safety
A U.S. Marine carries two young evacuees on board a Landing Craft Utility from a beach in Beirut, Lebanon, today. Around 1,200 Americans fleeing the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel are to be taken by LCU to the USS Nashville and transported to Cyprus. Thousands of Europeans also fled on ships — continuing one of the largest evacuations since World War II.
