Israeli raid may threaten day-old truce
JERUSALEM — Israeli troops shot and killed a Hamas-linked militant in a West Bank raid early this morning, endangering a day-old truce that stopped five months of Palestinian rocket fire and Israel operations in the Gaza Strip.
The surprise cease-fire deal appeared to be largely holding in Gaza early this morning, with no reports of Palestinian rocket fire into Israel.
But Israeli forces conducted an overnight raid, shooting dead two Palestinians, one of them a wanted militant. The killings angered alestinian militants and raised concerns of a violent response from Gaza.
