SRU's Heilman earns 200th win
It was a great weekend for the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team.
Rock coach Laurel Heilman notched her 200th career coaching victory in an 81-51 rout of Bloomsburg Saturday and on Sunday, SRU blew past Mansfield 72-50.
The win on Saturday, keyed by 23 points from Haley Gaidosh, broke a six-game losing streak for The Rock.
Grove City High School graduate Julie Molloy added 18 points and five rebounds.
On Sunday, KellyAnn Staudinger led five Rock players in double digits with 15 points.
Gaidosh added 12 points, Amanda Nero and Colleen Smith 11 each and Molloy 10 for The Rock.
It was the fourth straight game in which SRU (6-9) scored 70 or more points.
Heilman, who spent eight seasons at Allegheny College before coming to The Rock, now sports a 201-206 career record in 16 years.
While the women enjoyed a successful weekend, all the SRU men found was more frustration.Despite 16 points and nine rebounds from CorySomerville, The Rock fell to Bloomsburg 60-53 Saturday night.Somerville had another strong game Sunday againstMansfield with 13 points and 12 boards, but SRUdropped a 77-64 decision.The losses ran The Rock's losing streak to eight straight and dumped their record to 2-12.<B>Pitt-Titusville 79, Butler County Community College 53</B> — Jace Lumley, a Butler High graduate, scored 13 points and Freeport grad Nick Rutkoski added 12 points, but the Pioneers dropped to 1-13 overall and 0-4 in the league.
