NEW YORK — Connecticut is back at No. 1.UConn replaced Baylor at the top of the women's college basketball poll by The Associated Press. The Huskies received 37 of 40 first-places votes, with No. 2 Stanford getting the other three. Baylor fell to No. 3, followed by Tennessee and Texas A&M. Completing the top 10 are: Xavier, DePaul, Notre Dame, Duke and Michigan State.The Huskies spent a record 51 straight weeks at No. 1 before losing to the Cardinal on Dec. 30 and dropping to No. 2 for seven weeks. UConn had been moving closer to No. 1 before the Lady Bears lost to Texas Tech on Saturday. This is the 153rd week that UConn has been ranked first.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Cam Newton plans to fully participate in the NFL combine that begins later this week, saying he wants “to be transparent” through the whole draft process.Newton intends to work out for NFL teams in Indianapolis, and said he is ready to answer any questions they may have for the quarterback who won the BCS national championship and Heisman Trophy in his only season at Auburn.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Justine Siegal became the first woman to pitch batting practice in a major league spring training camp when she threw to the Cleveland Indians.Not only did she pass the test with flying colors, some people became a little envious along the way.Manager Manny Acta, who played catch with Siegal before she took the mound, said she was “pretty impressive.”Siegal has already broken gender barriers in baseball, having coached at the professional and college levels.
