SRU nips Edinboro, stays alive in PSAC

SLIPPERY ROCK — Maron Brown's rebound saved Slippery Rock's season — at least for now.

SRU's 6-foot-5 senior forward snared a rebound of a second missed Edinboro shot from close range just before the buzzer sounded on a 78-77 Rock men's basketball victory Saturday at Morrow Field House.

The Rock (14-9, 3-7) is two and a half games out of a PSAC Tournament berth with four conference games remaining.

Jabril Bailey scored SRU's final six points of the game. He sank a pair of free throws to knot the contest at 74, then gave his team the lead for good on a layup with two minutes left. A second Bailey layup gave The Rock a 78-74 edge with 1:15 to play.

Byron Knight's fourth trey of the game pulled the Fighting Scots (9-14, 3-7) within a point, but The Rock held on despite missing three shots on the offensive end with less than a minute to play.

Bailey led SRU with 23 points and added nine rebounds. Brown had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Mike Evans Jr. 15 points, Cecil Brown 13 points and seven assists.

Knight paced Edinboro with 26 points. Former SRU player Cory Somerville added 14.
