PITTSBURGH — A Middlesex Township woman was sentenced Thursday to five months in prison for mail fraud and filing a false tax return related to a nonprofit organization.

Pamela A. Vivirito, 47, was charged by federal prosecutors with one count of filing a false tax return in 2014.

Prosecutors say Vivirito, who ran a nonprofit group called Equine Angels Rescue, fraudulently solicited donations and used the money for personal expenses. She was charged with failing to report more than $46,000 collected by the group in 2013.

She pleaded guilty in April and received a sentence Thursday from U.S. Judge Joy Flowers Conti, which included three years of supervised release.

Conti also ordered her to pay $20,000 restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh.
