Student arrested for threat

ADAMS TWP — Township police on Tuesday arrested a Mars High School student for allegedly making a bomb threat in the building the day before.

Township Police Chief Bill Westerman said the investigation led to the arrest of the girl, who was not identified.

Information about the girl was not released.

Westerman said the case will be handled by Butler County Juvenile Court.

The high school was evacuated Monday afternoon after a written note was found attached to a stall door in the girls’ locker room.

Superintendent William Pettigrew said the school reopened Tuesday morning following building searches Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning in which no explosives were found.

Pettigrew said the Tuesday search was a precautionary measure before students entered the building. “We always do a follow up,” he said.

The note, which was signed with the letter A, reportedly stated: “Good luck with the bomb. Have fun Mars High.”

Following the discovery of the note, entrances to the school were blocked and Route 228 was shut down while high school students walked across the highway to the middle school.

All sports and activities scheduled for Monday night were canceled.
