GRADUATES
Lauren Hassen, formerly of Cranberry Township, graduated with honors with a doctor of medicine degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Hassen was the recipient of the Dean's Award at the convocation ceremony for the top all-around student in the class.
She will complete a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
Hassen graduated with honors in 2008 from Case Western Reserve University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and psychology and from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 with a master's degree in public health in epidemiology.
Hassen is a 2004 Seneca Valley High School graduate and is the daughter of Jeff and Jodi Hassen of Cranberry Township.
Michael Schontz of Butler received a doctor of pharmacy degree with a concentration in acute care from Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. He graduated cum laude.Schontz accepted a residency at Allegheny General Hospital.He is a 2008 graduate of Butler High School and is the son of Rick and Connie Schontz of Butler.
Adina Luppe of Fenelton received a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from West Virginia University. She graduated magna cum laude.Luppe is a certified rehabilitation counselor and a member of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society.She is employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry's Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.Luppe graduated in 1992 from Butler High School. She received a bachelor's degree in community programs for Americans with disabilities from Slippery Rock University in 1996.Her husband is Jim Luppe and she has a daughter, Abigail. Her parents are Paul and Nancy Edwards of Butler.
Zachary David Best of Butler received a master's degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University. He graduated with distinction and a 3.81 GPA.He was named a Ruth and Bill Cooper Scholar.Best is a 2005 graduate of Butler High School. He graduated in 2009 from Allegheny College.He is the son of Ellen Garbuny and Don Best of Butler.
Sara Rae Saeler received a bachelor's degree in speech pathology and audiology with a minor in social work from Clarion (Pa.) University. She graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA.She was on the dean's list every semester, elected into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and received the Edwin R. “Jack” Simpson Scholarship.Saeler has been accepted into the master's degree program for speech language pathology at Clarion.Saeler is a 2010 graduate of Butler High School. She is the daughter of Richard and Barbara Saeler of Butler.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Joseph Mathews of Grove City received a bachelor's degree in information technology.He is the first graduate of the educational partnership between Butler County Community College and Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.The bachelor's degree completion program allows students to combine on-campus work at BC3 with online classes through Franklin.Nearly 250 community colleges in 33 states have agreements with Franklin.
