Four-alarm fire draws county departments

The building at 229 S. Main St. in downtown Butler is on fire Saturday morning.

There do not appear to be any casualties in a four- alarm fire that broke out in a storefront on Main Street Saturday morning.

While several stores will be dealing with aftermath from the flames, damage has been contained to Reclamation Brewing Company, Sir Speedy and Edward Jones.

The fire, which apparently started in the back of the Sir Speedy location, began around 8:15 a.m.

The fire needed to be controlled several times after it spread to “void spaces,” according to Butler City Fire Department Chief Chris Switala.

Flames were under control by about 12:30 p.m. Main Street is still closed from West Wayne Street to Jefferson Street while emergency personnel clear the scene.

Switala said the cause of the fire is not known at this time, but the state police fire marshal is investigating.
