Nancy Murray
Nancy Marie (Vogel) Sweesy Murray, 90, passed away, very peacefully, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospice House of Wexford. She battled Parkinson’s and dementia for the last 30 years.
Born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Butler. A daughter of Bernard and Grace Bucey Vogel, she was the last surviving and youngest of their eight children. She worked at Winter’s Drug Store and as bookkeeper at Miller’s Shoes in her teen years, before graduating Butler High School in June of 1951. Nancy found her purpose in accounting and devoted more than 60 years of her life to the profession, including a decade in the Butler County Treasurer’s Office.
In 1952, she married Jim Sweesy and they had three children, Walter J. Sweesy of Ohio, Patricia M. Collins of Butler and Melissa Ann Sweesy, deceased. Nancy was then married to Edward Murray from 1979 to 1982.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church, she was active in their Women’s Society for many years. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, sewing, bridge and baking as well as hosting holiday parties for family and friends.
She is survived by her son and daughter; as well as six grandchildren, Heather VanDoren, Sarah Collins, Laura Collins Taylor (Dennis), Steven Collins, Erik Rose and AJ Haid II; and three great-granddaughters, Gracen, Emerson and Sadie. She leaves behind some cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, siblings, daughter, daughter-in-law and son-in-law.
MURRAY — All services for Nancy Marie (Vogel) Sweesy Murray, who died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, were held privately through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
