Joan A. Kelly, 88, of Butler, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Butler on June 19, 1936, to the late Edward “Eddie” and Edna (McDowell) Rickard.

Joan graduated from Butler High School in 1954. She enjoyed working for Dr. Donald Nebel as an optometric assistant for 40 years, until her retirement in 2018 at the age of 82. Her family was her greatest joy. Joan was also a lifelong member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Joan is survived by her five daughters, Kim Edwards (Mark), Nancy Smith, Amy Barkus (Paul), Lisa Guerre (John) and Tiffany Kelly (Tom); her 15 grandchildren; her 23 great-grandchildren; her brother, William Rickard (Kay); her brother-in-law, Biff McMillin; her numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Jack Brown.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert L. Kelly, who passed away on Aug. 13, 2002; and her sister, Nancy McMillin.

KELLY — A visitation for Joan A. Kelly, who died Monday, July 8, 2024, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor David Phillips, of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Burial Estates & Mausoleum.
