Nancy Lee Cope
Nancy Lee Cope, 60, of Butler passed away Sunday at her home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1955, at Brooke Army Hospital in Fort Sam, Houston, Texas, to Donald I. Cope and the late Margaret “Peggy” (Geltz) Cope.
Nancy professed Christ to be her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed being in the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures.
Nancy was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in religion from Grove City College then went on to do postgraduate work in communications at Slippery Rock University.
Nancy worked as counselor at the Seneca Hills Bible Camp. She was a teacher and a dorm parent at a boarding school in Arizona for Native American children and was a radio announcer for a Christian-sponsored broadcasting station.
She volunteered to go with members and a pastor from the Northway Community Christian Church to Bakersfield, Calif., to plant a new church. When she returned to Butler, she worked for the Butler County Traveling Library Bookmobile, BART, Aire Ride, Life Butler County and the Butler Blind Association.
Nancy enjoyed bird watching, studying and interacting with animals at Animal Treasures facilities in New Castle and Donegal. Nancy always enjoyed the companionship of a pet dog.
Nancy is survived by her father, Dr. Donald I. Cope; one sister, Anne Wallace Cope of Spring Hill, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Karen F. Cope of Economy Boro, Pa.; two nieces, Sara and Susan Cope; and one nephew, Donald W. Cope.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret “Peggy” G. Cope, and her brother, James S. Cope.
COPE — Friends of Nancy Lee Cope, who died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 123 E. North St., Butler. A blessing service will follow immediately at noon with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKain Street, Butler, PA 16001, the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053 or to the Seneca Hills Bible Conference, 276 Damascus Road, Polk, PA 16342-4909.
