CRANBERRY TWP — Holiday decorating enthusiasts should enjoy and even benefit from the 2015 Cranberry Women’s Club Christmas House Tour.

That’s the word from tour organizer Peggy Davis, who said seven homes in Cranberry and Adams townships will display every type of holiday decoration.

She said one beautiful arrangement from a previous house tour was a Mason jar holding a bottom layer of table salt, then a layer of fresh cranberries, then a candle. The jar was surrounded by pine boughs the homeowners had cut from their own pine trees.

“It was so simple and beautiful, and it cost next to nothing,” said Davis.

Another display, Davis said, consisted of stars hung from fishing wire strung along the home’s ceiling.

“They’re just simple things, and you think ‘I could do that,’” Davis said. “You really can pick up a lot.”

This year’s event will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6.

Davis said visitors will start at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, where a local Girl Scout troop will be sing holiday songs, and a raffle will be offered.

Everyone will be given a booklet that tells the stories of each house on the tour, as well as driving directions and addresses.

Those touring will be broken into four groups that will head out on different routes.

“That way, you don’t have 200 people at the same house at the same time,” Davis said.

Participants will then have four hours to visit each of the seven houses.

New this year will be a decorated model home in The Links housing development and an Eden Square apartment. Both are on Freshcorn Road in Cranberry Township.

Another decorated model home will be in the BelleVue housing plan on Rochester Road in Cranberry.

Davis said Cranberry Women’s Club members will use their own decorations to bedeck the three model homes.

“The decorations suit each house,” Davis said. “I would call the one in BelleVue ‘Tuscany,’ and in The Links, the girl who is decorating it is calling it ‘peacock.’”

Kim Cannon will open her home this year to the tour for the first time.

“It’s a really nice honor,” Cannon said. “I was surprised, but pleased (to be asked.)”

Cannon said she and her husband had their Victorian home custom built. She said the entire main floor, including the two-story entryway, will be open for viewing. The curved staircase and two bedrooms, plus a room over the garage also will be available for viewing.

Cannon said her home was built with turrets and a wraparound porch.

“We try to make it look old, even though it’s new,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the tour. Everyone should come out and get some ideas for Christmas.”

Proceeds from the Cranberry Women’s Club Christmas House Tour will benefit the Gleaner’s Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.
