Butler Twp. drops Mars
Dave Zarnick scattered five hits over seven innings and Chris Codispot singled twice, tripled and drove in a run as Butler Township stayed alive in the Butler CountyAmerican Legion baseball tournament with a 4-2 win over Mars Friday night.
Mars, the regular season champion, was eliminated from the tournament. It will still be one of two teams from the league to advance to the Region 7 tournament in Indiana, Pa.
The other spot goes to the tournament winner, and Butler Township hopes to be that team.
To do that, it must beat Saxonburg when the two teams meet at 6 p.m. Saturday at East Butler.
The loser is eliminated.
The winners bracket final between East Butler and Butler City will be played at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at East Butler. The loser of that game will play the Butler Township-Saxonburg winner on Sunday.
In Friday's other playoff game, Saxonburg overcame five errors to emerge with a 3-2 win over Meridian, which was eliminated.
