Symphony is ‘At the Movies’The Butler County Symphony Orchestra presents “At the Movies,” featuring the music of John Williams from movies such as “Star Wars,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.” and “Jurassic Park,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.A pre-concert lecture with guest conductor Charles Latshaw will begin at 6:30 p.m.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. SV dance benefits bandJACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley annual Big Band Dance March 19 will benefit the Seneca Valley Band Program.The dance will be from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the intermediate high school and will feature dance instruction from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and open ballroom dancing and swing dancing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.Music will be provided by the Jim Cunningham Orchestra and the SV Jazz Ensembles.Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

Bird watchers to gatherMUDDY CREEK TWP — Bird watchers will gather March 19 to observe flocking species passing through Moraine State Park on their way north to their summer nesting grounds.The group will meet at 10 a.m. on old Route 422, across from the regional DCNR office and will travel around to various locations in the park.For more information, call 724-256-0674.

Mystery show benefits trailPROSPECT — “Death and Taxes” by Mystery’s Most Wanted will be presented April 2 as a fundraiser for Leadership Butler County’s community service project: the educational nature trail at Butler County Children’s Center.Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. at The Atrium, 1031 New Castle Road.Tickets are $30 and available from Leadership Butler County members or by calling 724-283-2222.

‘Piano Teaching’ subject of talkMARS — Opus I Music Society will continue its study of “Technology and Music” March 14 at Mars Alliance Church, Route 228.Dan Severino will present “Piano Teaching in the 21st Century.”Admission is free, and the program starts with refreshments at 9:30 a.m. in the music room. Stone House hosts exhibitBRADY TWP — The Stone House Center for Public Humanities will present the exhibition “Here & There” April 9 and 16 at the Old Stone House, Route 8. Visitors can tour the exhibit from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.“Here & There” is a collaboration between the students and art faculty at Fiber Art Studios at the Academy of Fine Arts, Gdansk, Poland, and Slippery Rock University.The show explores batik craftsmanship and techniques used to create the designs on cloth.School-aged children can try basic batik activities both days.
